COMPTON – The Compton Unified School District’s (CUSD) New Student Orientation Center, 417 W. Alondra Blvd., is now registering students who are new to the district for the 2008-09 school year.

All incoming kindergartners, children born on or before December 2, 2003, and those returning to CUSD after an absence of a semester can register as well. Registration sessions are being held twice daily, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Parents, guardians and families are being served on a first-come-first-served basis. Those planning on registering their children are required to present several documents. Only the parent/legal guardian will be allowed to register a child and must present a photo I.D. Additionally, a proof of address is required. CUSD will accept any of the following as a proof of address: property tax payment, either a gas, electricity or water utility service bill, or a rental contract with a most recent receipt. Notarized affidavits are accepted, using a CUSD form only, if accompanied by a proof of address.

Transitional families and foster youth should contact CUSD at (310) 639-4321, ext. 63056.

Other required documents include: proof of the child’s age, which can be either a birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport. Proof of immunization is required for all students. Current physical examination results and an official oral health report are required for kindergartners and first grade students.

All students, first grade through eighth grade, must present their last report card. High school students are required to present their complete unofficial high school transcripts.

All students should bring a Pupil Accounting Report/Withdrawal Form from the last school attended. Students in grades two through 12 who have previously attended a California school need to provide a copy of their STAR test results. Students should also indicate if they are in the GATE program.
