Lynwood Rite Aid hosts free dental exams for kids

From staff reports

America’s most common childhood disease is easily preventable. Dental caries (cavities) is the single most common disease of childhood. Recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics show that school-aged children miss approximately 51.6 million school hours every year due to a dental problem or visit. That doesn’t even begin to count the work time missed by moms and dads having to deal with their kids’ dental issues.

As part of Rite Aid’s Oral Health Program, the drugstore chain has teamed up with dental products innovator Premier Dental, The American Dental Association, Give Kids A Smile, Tzu Chi Foundation and the Los Angeles Dental Society to provide free dental exams, cleanings and preventative fluoride gel treatments for children ages 2 through 10 on a first-come, first-served basis at the Rite Aid located at 11325 Long Beach Blvd. in Lynwood this Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This is an excellent opportunity to touch the lives of dozens of families in the Los Angeles area as well as highlight the importance of access to proper dental care for children,” said Julie Charlestein, president of Premier Dental Products.

Today’s dental professionals provide the valuable services of preventing, diagnosing and treating oral diseases, such as tooth decay. The products the dentist chooses are important to assist in the constant care required for excellent oral health. Preventive dentistry products that have “remineralizing” technologies are not only highly effective in helping to prevent cavities and strengthen children’s teeth, but they actually help to remineralize or rebuild the enamel.

ACP, or amorphous calcium phosphateis a remineralizing technology available via dental offices in the form of new gels, pastes and varnishes that enhance the delivery of the strengthening fluoride and present available ACP, which can stimulate remineralization of the tooth structure.
